Systems Engineer III at Scripps Networks

Shane started computing on a Commodore VIC-20 in the early 80s, and it was love at first keystroke. Many years later, he is happily employed as a Systems Engineer III at Scripps Networks, focusing on evaluation, analysis, tools, and automation. He loves to make, learn, and teach.

In this presentation, Shane will describe his experiences in the design and deployment of Ouroboros, a log management system for a large enterprise environment. General topics shall include requirements definition, system design, implementation, and monitoring. Components will include Linux, rsyslog, heartbeat and corosync, GlusterFS, Ceph, Splunk, Hadoop, LogStash, and various tools and methods for monitoring and performance.
